China & Taiwan Projects

China Project

China students Training in Shanghai March 2008

Our Director, Dr. Wai-yung Lee, has been active in promoting family therapy training in China. Two 3-year training projects have been delivered so far. The first one was co-sponsored with the Mental Health Institute of the Beijing University and The Minuchin Foundation on Family Therapy, Hong Kong. 72 clinicians, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors from different parts of China, graduated from this project. The second project is sponsored by the Shanghai Mental Health Center. This project was completed in 2008 and has graduated close to 80 graduates.

The training format involved mostly clinical supervision and working with live families from different regions in China. These training projects have taken us not only to big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing, but also to Xi'an, Taiyuan, Chengdu, Wuhan, and other places. A large volume of clinical data on families with diverse culture, which provides invaluable resources for training and research in family therapy process, has been accumulated.

Taiwan Project

This project is the first cross-regional tele-conferencing for supervision that aims to open up a new horizon for providing much needed clinical backup to the island. A training package has been developed in collaboration with the Taiwan Mental Health Institute. The training format includes live case demonstration in the form of training workshops and clinical supervision through bi-weekly teleconferencing.
