Background

The HKUFI, previously known as the Family Clinic, was set up in 1994 by Dr. Wai-yung Lee, an overseas family therapy trainer, in an effort to provide training that is family-focused and trans-disciplinary oriented. The demonstration of live family interviews soon started a trend for professionals to bring in their difficult family cases for consultation and training, and the clinic has become a forum for the development of innovative training and research projects.

Today, the HKUFI encompasses multi-disciplinary expertise from five HKU Departments including Psychology, Psychiatry, Medicine, Paediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, and Social Work & Social Administration. With grants from the Lotteries Fund, University Development Fund, and the HKU Foundation, the HKUFI is transformed from a make-shift operation into a well-equipped and permanent center, housing some of the most advanced clinicians and trainers in the field in Hong Kong.
